The Challenge
Created a temporary installation that visually and experientially represents a brand of your choice. (1) Visitors who are already familiar with the brand should be able to immediately recognize the entity, and (2) visitors who were NOT previously acquainted with the brand should leave the space with a strong impression. BOTH parties should be engaged and enticed to learn more. Use passive and interactive elements to engage visitors with the installation. Interaction can include elements of physical play, facilitated activities, digital media, etc. The visitor experience should be 10-15 minutes.

Site: Domino Park
Domino Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is a community-oriented site, equipped with seating, greenery, playgrounds and sport fields, walking and running paths, and water views to Manhattan. Brooklyn is the headquarters of Bandit, so a brand activation here is recognizable to locals. Additionally, the visual theme of ripples fits well with the site's the natural elements.

Message in a Baton
Inspired by Message in a Bottle, objects resembling running batons are actually designed to hold rolled up messages. Visitors can choose a category that describes their running style (Slow and Sexy, Casually Committed, or Fast and Fearless). Hand written notes share experiences, thoughts, and inspirations about running.

Visitors can choose a category that describes their running style (Slow and Sexy, Casually Committed, or Fast and Fearless). Hand written notes share experiences, thoughts, and inspirations about running.
Despite these categories, all batons are the same silver, conveying a sense of quality, unity, and shared reflection. The aluminum material, the standard for running batons, can by recycled endlessly. This sustainability is further emphasized by a symbolic "passing of the baton", where visitors may take the message, and in return, write a new one and replace it in the baton for the next person to unroll.
This interactive installation sheds light on the Bandit community and supports the exhibition concept that running creates a cycle, or ripple effect, of positive affirmations. Lights behind each baton turn on when it gets dark, allowing visitors to experience the activity in the evening.
To incorporate movement into the static wall, individual batons could gently flicker between soft and bright. This would create a kinetic light show, building interest and attracting people from a distance. The batons could even respond to touch, so that when they sense heat from visitors' hands, they could shine brighter.
